Great Mission Group Consultancy (GMGC) is a group of academicians and legal professionals established in Pune with the vision of providing a concrete platform to promote Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and WTO related areas. GMGC works for awareness in the field of Geographical Indication, Patents, Design & Trademark and encourages the stakeholders to create and protect the Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs). GMGC worked diligently to make Intellectual Property Rights as a tool for economic growth in India.
GMGC is pioneered the protection, promotion and enforcement of Geographical Indications (GI) for the welfare of indigenous communities’ rights. We have created a niche identity in the area of GI by registering and providing well equipped services to help farmer’s/weavers/artisans community to get their rights and explore international markets. GMGC has worked for 89 GIs to contribute towards the recognition of India’s asset on an individual scale which includes 51 GIs from Maharashtra out of which 38 GIs got registered. We individually rank highest in registration of Agriculture GI product in India; including Mahabaleshwar Strawberry, Nasik Grapes etc. In 2016, the Hon’ble Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, presented Prof. Ganesh Hingmire, the founder of GMGC, a National IP Award for “Best Facilitation of Registration of Geographical Indications and Promotion of Registered GI in India”. Hon’ble Governor of Maharashtra inaugurated two books written by Prof. Adv. Ganesh S. Hingmire on “Intellectual property rights and geographical indications” respectively in 2021 and Marathi audio book on “GI Manankan” in 2022 at Raj Bhavan.
GMGC has been extremely successful in assisting numerous start-ups, companies and individual brand owners for registering their brands as trademarks both in India and internationally. Some of notable examples include Lalbaugcha Raja, Sanskriti School, Germinator, ieyeze, GEMS etc. Additionally, GMGC is known for its significant success in prosecuting various Copyright applications.
Although we take a pride in being the pioneers of this innovative venture working toward community IP rights, i.e., GIs, our achievements extend to other avenues of IPR but not limited to patents, trademarks and copyright. The GI products have been actively marketed at regional exhibitions, reaching out to millions of people, and GMGC has been frequently participated the GI exhibitions not only in Pune but also in other countries. Likewise, we have participated in GI exhibitions organized by Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Govt. of India in Mumbai and Delhi. We took GI products with farmers at the Thaifex Exhibition held at Bangkok. GMGC team has experienced that the consumer really appreciates the GI products and reverts with positive feedback after consumption. There is still more work to be done, but GMGC is dedicated to advancing GI products while preserving traditional production methods and bringing honour to India’s rural and tribal areas.
GMGC has also successfully launched the Patent and GI Drive, 2016 program at Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. We have a 100% success rate for international trademark filing. Additionally, we have worked towards creation of awareness about IPR from law students to IAS officers by conducting over 1,100 lectures across seven states in India.
GMGC has assisted students, female entrepreneurs, scientists, and grassroots inventors in registering their patents. For example, they have registered a non-contact type lidar-based system for measuring ground water and method thereof, a method for isolating rare endophytes from a host plant, an electric foldable bike, and a roadside apparatus to reduce traffic-borne air pollution.
GMGC has signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with several prominent colleges and universities in Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu, including Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth, Rahuri, and Dapoli University. These colleges and universities have launched drives to motivate and increase IPR work. Similarly, a patent drive was launched at Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth (MPKV), Rahuri, which resulted in an increase in the filing of many patent applications for various agricultural technologies and products.
