Mitel Announces Patent Cross License Agreement with IBM

OTTAWA, ONTARIO - Mitel announced in a press release a patent cross license agreement with IBM. The cross license provides mutual access to a broad range of patents that will enable the companies to pursue strategic opportunities created by the transition to unified communications.

"This agreement with IBM will enable our companies and our customers to benefit from the innovation and creativity that is embodied in our respective patents and inventions," Head of Mitel's Intellectual Property Licensing Christian Szpilfogel said. "We believe in taking a collaborative yet proactive approach to protecting our Intellectual Property," Szpilfogel added. "IBM has a rich history of licensing Intellectual Property to encourage innovation and collaboration," IBM Intellectual Property Licensing General Manager Dan Cerutti stated.

"Patent cross licenses provide a foundation for organizations to cooperate and better compete in the global economy," Cerutti continued.>

Specific terms of the agreement will not be disclosed.

Mitel and IBM maintain active patent and technology licensing programs that offer licensing arrangements to companies interested in their respective portfolios.
